Hunting Responsibly – Gun Safety Regulations
A hunter has many reasons to get injured, but one of the most common reasons is improper handling of the gun. Sadly, there are a number of hunters who take for granted the safety precautions that need to be followed while hunting with a gun. The number of injuries relating to improper handling of the gun is on the rise and one too many people are falling victim to the carelessness. If you are a logical and good hunter, take good note of all safety precautions that relate to the weapon and learn everything about basic gun safety while hunting.
The most important and fundamental law when it comes to gun hunting is that one should always treat it as if it were loaded. This guideline is universal for guns, and is not restricted to any one particular type of gun. You should never assume a gun is unloaded. Treat the gun like a bomb. Do not be flippant with it and wave it around at others faces, and keep it for everybody to see. There area number of things that can happen if even a small amount of gun powder residue remains thus leading up to the chances of a potentially dangerous incident taking place. Instead of this happening, you should always assume the gun is loaded.
Remember all hunting safety techniques when you are on the field hunting. Always keep your fingers in an indexed position till you are ready to fire. This helps tin avoiding all accidental firing that can lead to serious injury. Keep your fingers a little folded and away from the gun’s trigger. When it is important to keep the finger near the trigger, fold the fingers and keep them away from notches till you are prepared to fire at the target. You must be extremely careful, because one wrong move on your part can cause an accident resulting in death or injury.
Always point the gun in a direction that is safe. This means that you should never point the gun at a person. There are one too many tales of people flippantly pointing guns at their companions and the trigger accidentally going off causing death or injury. For these reasons, it would be common sense to always keep the gun pointed at something safe and attentively away from all humans including yourself. This rule should be followed whether or not the gun is loaded.
Another reminder, that is more common sense than anything else, is that you should never ever look down the gun’s barrel to check if it is loaded. As mentioned above, one must always treat the gun as loaded, and when it comes to handling one, should never treat it like a harmless toy. You never know if the gun has some gun powder residue that has gotten lodged inside the gun and cause it to fire exactly when you are pointing it at yourself. Keep the gun away from your face at all times.
Never drop the gun. This is very important. Dropping a gun can lead to accidental firing sending the powder or bullet in a chaotic and random direction that can prove to be disastrous. Always treat the gun carefully and hold it with both your hands.
Do not, under any circumstance, hand over the gun to an intoxicated person. Drugs and alcohol slow down the reasoning process of the brain causing the person to lose better judgment and control over oneself. It is possible that the intoxicated person will lose control and fire the gun in an inappropriate direction leading to death or injury.
If you want to make sure that your hunting trip is safe and happy, follow all these rules carefully. If you do not pay attention to the safety regulations, you are increasing the risk factor of your hunting trip to more than two times leading to an inevitable incident of injury. Always maintain safety while handling a gun and on a hunting trip.
